Bullshead Express Reviews
I was browsing Yelp to find something quick to eat as I was starving after work! Found this spot and ordered a salmon teriyaki bento box with California roll. I have to say this was hands down the best bento box I've ever had. I picked up my food and the restaurant is small and it the kitchen looks homey. Everything tasted so fresh and it came in a perfect portion of salmon, rice, salad and sushi. The food def feels like it was made with love. Like your grandparents making food in the kitchen. I will definitely come back again! Thank you!
A nice small but excellent restaurant with food that is a hearty amount of comfort food. I had the western burger, it was large and delicious. I also tried the sweet potato fries and some onion rings, I believe they were great, fresh out of the fryer and tasted great. Our table also tried the Californian roll and tempura roll, both were good. The service was excellent with the hostess meeting all of our needs as soon as she saw it was needed. Great service. The restaurant is small but with the excellent smells coming from the kitchen it makes this small but excellent restaurant a great place to go to.
What a great little restaurant. I got the mushroom burger and a California roll for a snack later. If you happen to be staying at the Marriott just walk directly behind the Hampton hotel, there's a little entrance where their outdoor seating is located. Ignore the gps directions that take you all around to the light and down. The service was friendly and quick. The burger was excellent! So juicy! Probably one of the best burgers I've ever had. Definitely a top ten list . I like that they make it how you like it cooked and it was cooked perfectly. The roll was pretty standard and also good, I'd order that again too or try one of their other sushi rolls, there's plenty to choose from. Burger was about $15, roll $11. Not the cheapest but nothing in San Francisco is cheap, definitely beats the other options around.
Ordered the avocado burger medium and it was awesome and cooked perfectly!! Also had to try some sushi (spicy tuna and California roll) both were so fresh and delicious!! Will be back to eat here again when I am back on business. Stayed at the Hampton and walked right to the restaurant from the parking lot of Hampton. So easy and the owners were so nice. See you next time
BullsHead Express is the textbook definition of a hole in the wall restaurant. This place was even basically invisible even if you search your radius for restaurants on Yelp. This restaurant has been open for decades, but there isn't a ton of reviews which makes sense because of how hidden it is. It's close by the New England Lobster Market and I wanted to try out BullsHead even though their menu seemed strange with it being Japanese focused, but also serving burgers and sandwiches. Their name certainly doesn't scream authentic Japanese food. The location is discrete and parking is very easy. From the outside looking in my first thought is wow this place is really old and outdated. Every seat had tennis balls covering the bottom of the chairs which was funny to me and to be compeltely honest it's not the cleanest place in the world. My expectations were not high, but then you are greeted by an older couple that runs this family owned restaurant themselves. They were friendly and despite how this place looks I actually had a solid experience here. They take your order at the cashier then you sit down and I chose the 3 Item Bento Box ($23.95 + $3 for Tempura). Honestly it is on the pricier side for what it is which was surprising for the location. What keeps me from giving a 5 star is definitely pricing and for the bento box there is a lot of items that get a mark up of $3 or so like the tempura which can end up adding up to a pretty steep price. I have to say though, I really enjoyed my bento box. I got the California Roll, Chicken Teriyaki, and the Tempura that comes with vegetables and shrimp. The California Rolls were tasty and the avocados were fresh. The chicken teriyaki was honestly super tender and I liked how the teriyaki sauce didn't overpower the flavor of the well seasoned chicken. The tempura was honestly some of the best tempura I have had in such a long time. They didn't overdo it with the batter and it was incredibly crispy and flavorful. It surpassed my expectations easily and I was satisfied with my bento. My dad complained his sashimi was a small portion, but I had some of his salmon and it was solid, but I enjoyed my selections a lot more. Honestly, for what it is I was satisfied with the food at BullsHead Express and it is nice supporting a small family business. If you can stomach that fact that this is a pretty dated interior and the prices are a bit up there, the quality is still very good and the service is good as well.
Been working in this area for over three years and never even noticed Bullshead Express till now. Going in, I was expecting burgers, but that only took up a small portion of their menu. Their menu also includes: Sandwiches, salad, noodles, bento boxes, sushi rolls and more. I was a little shocked at what my total came out to be. My boyfriend and I ordered a Chirashi bowl, seafood Udon, two hot teas and it totaled up to $67 excluding tips. It was pricey, but the portions were huge and it was very delicious. So much umami in my seafood udon, which had mussels, scallops, salmon, hamachi, shrimp, tai, bak choy, spinach and onions. The Chirashi had three large pieces of salmon, hamachi, tuna, tai, seared tuna, a mixture of sashimi in poke form and a spicy imitation crab wrapped in a cucumber on top of sushi rice. We got more than what the menu said it would have. Although a little shocked when paying, I personally think that the pricing was reasonable for the items that I ordered because seafood is expensive and the owners did not skimp on the ingredients. I didn't order, but I did look at the three item bento boxes and the pricing for that was quite steep. The base price is $23.95, which really only comes with chicken teriyaki, gyoza, California rolls, or avocado rolls because anything else is an additional $1-2. If you want a repeat of one item, it's an additional $2-$5. Pricey....however, I do love supporting local businesses and the food was prepared with care by a lovely couple. I enjoyed all the items that were ordered during my visit.
This place is ran by a husband and wife couple. Stopped in here for a quick lunch. Ordered a bento box, the sushi was really fresh and was delicious. The couple were really friendly and I loved the family environment.

I just flew in from SoCal for a work trip & arrived very hungry so I found this cute little spot down the street from my hotel. I ordered the Bento box with 2 items: Salmon teriyaki and a salmon roll + miso soup. The food here is very authentic and very fresh. The owners who also work as cashier & cook run this place like it's their home kitchen. The salmon was so fresh, crispy and flavorful. The miso soup by far is the best I've had yet! I definitely recommend this spot if you're looking for a filling yet yummy lunch or dinner!
